Prior to entering into legal industry, Capt. Bonaparte has 13 years at sea. His experience in maritime industry started as a Deck Cadet, he became a Captain at the age of 25 at A.P. Moller Group for their fleet in Alexandria (Middle East region) and afterwards promoted to Auditor for Iran fleet. He was also serving as Marine Surveyor for Braemar and now giving lecture in the Indonesia Merchant Marine Institute under the Directorate General of Sea Communication (Under Ministry of Communication), founder of Bonaparte Marine (a marine services company as well as Indonesia’s biggest private Marlins ATC), Chairman of Bonaparte Indonesia Foundation, and the Vice Chairman of Indonesian Seafarer’s Union – KPIP, there all crew of SAMUEL BONAPARTE “trained” to understand maritime law directly from the industry.
Having the fruitful experience at sea, Capt. Bonaparte soon becomes an expert in admiralty and maritime law, not only he holds LLB and LLM degree from a leading Indonesian University (Universitas Indonesia), he also has bachelor in Economy and Class I (Master – Unlimited). He has worked with prominent law firms including Rajah Tan Indonesia. Apart from many successful domestic Indonesian cases against private entity, e.g. Prudential and several State-Owned Companies as well as numerous Indonesian forms of Ship Arrests, he has undertaken National and International ADR cases including LMAA – London, SIAC – Singapore and HKIAC – Hong Kong.
In 2014 SAMUEL BONAPARTE expanded their practice area to include aviation industry and recognized as a Tier 2 Firm in Legal 500. We have advised and assisted our clients in their business activities, particularly in financing and importation matters of aircraft or helicopter. This practice is handled by Partners Ridha Sjartina and Sri Patuan. in 2017 we handled the delivery of 3 aircrafts for one of the largest airlines in Indonesia with the transaction value of USD 106,500,000.
Our maritime team, are eligible to act as expert counsel for our client in the vessels’ accident examination both in preliminary and in the Indonesian Admiralty Court under the Directorate General of Sea Transportation where all marine incidents in Indonesia waters related to vessels will firstly be examined and investigated. SAMUEL BONAPARTE, besides handling general legal matters, is the most prominent Maritime law firm with branches in Singapore and Canada also in major port cities in Indonesia, with 24/7 Emergency Response capability, assuring clients that the Firm is on watch to assist them in any situation.
Currently, the team is comprised of approximately sixty Lawyers and Marine Professionals in several locations across Indonesia.
